How To Retain Your Top Talent

If you were planning to quit your job, what would it take to persuade you to stay? Better benefits? A bigger paycheck? More flexibility?

According to CareerBuilder, 39% of employers are concerned that they’ll lose top talent in 2013. While 66% of workers stated that they are generally satisfied at work, one in four (25%) said they plan to change jobs this year or next.

But it turns out employers may be able to retain those valuable workers by offering them what they want most.

CareerBuilder conducted a survey among 2,611 hiring managers and human resource professionals and 3,991 workers nationwide to find what employees value in the workplace, and what ultimately entices them to stay with their employers.

“Not recognizing what’s important to employees can translate into more job dissatisfaction, lower productivity, and higher voluntary turnover,” says Rosemary Haefner, vice president of Human Resources at CareerBuilder. “It’s critical that companies regularly take the temperature of their workplace and survey employees to identify where the company excels in providing a positive employee experience as well as opportunities to improve.”

The majority of workers (70%) reported that increasing salaries is the best way to boost employee retention, while 58% pointed to better benefits. More than half (51%) said a more flexible schedule might persuade them to stay, and 50% said an increase in employee recognition (awards, cash prizes, company trips) would do the trick.

Others said if their employer were to offer more learning opportunities or academic reimbursement, or if they implemented a casual dress code, they might be inclined to stay put.

In a separate question about benefits, 26% of workers said that providing special perks is an effective way to improve employee retention. When asked to identify perks that would make their workplace more enjoyable, 40% said half-day Fridays, 20% mentioned an on-site fitness center, and 18% liked the idea of wearing jeans to work. Others listed things like daily catered lunches, nap rooms, massages, snack carts, and on-site daycare.

One thing that wasn’t so important to employees: Job title. In another survey question, more than half (55%) of respondents said their job title isn’t an important factor in their decision to stay or go. When asked what’s more important than the job title, employees said pay, schedule flexibility, the ability to make a difference, and challenging work, among other things.

“Employees want to feel valued,” Haefner says. “They want to be compensated well; they want to be challenged; they want to contribute to something meaningful; and they want to have a good work-life balance.”

Internet Blackout 2012

blackout

Hundreds of thousands of Internet users whose computers are infected with a particularly nasty virus will be unable to access the Web starting on Monday.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation will shut down Internet servers that it temporarily set up to support those affected by malicious software, called DNSChanger. Turning off those servers will knock all those still infected offline.

Over the past five years, a group of six Estonian cybercriminals infected about 4 million computers around the world with DNSChanger. The malware redirected infected users’ Web searches to spoofed sites with malicious advertisements.

In November 2011, the FBI and some overseas partners arrested those responsible, commandeered their servers, and attempted to warn those affected to get rid of the virus.

The FBI did not immediately take down the rogue servers, as infected computers would have lost Internet access, an FBI spokesman said.

To remedy the problem, the FBI had the nonprofit Internet Systems Consortium set up temporary servers. That way, computer owners would have time to get rid of their malware.

The servers were supposed to be shut down in March, but hundreds of thousands remained infected. Nearly 304,000 computers worldwide (about 70,000 in the United States) still had the virus in mid-June, according to the FBI’s latest report. That’s a large number, but it’s a very small subset of the 1.6 billion PCs worldwide, of which an estimated 339 million are in the United States.

Still, the FBI decided to give people even more time to check for the malware, extending the deadline until July. The agency now says the time has come to cut the cord, and the emergency servers will be shut down on Monday.

Though the FBI tried to send notifications to those infected, it could not identify all of them, a spokesman said.

Great White Shark in Australia (Footage)

Australian authorities have assured swimmers and surfers at Bondi Beach that lifeguards routinely patrol for sharks after footage surfaced recently, showing a massive great white savagely attacking a smaller blue shark attached to a line alongside a fishing boat (footage begins at the 30-second mark).

Would you rather be making money everyday or playing with Sharks? I know my answer!

Take care,

“Think Like A Man” #1 At Box Office, Wins With $33M In Ticket Sales

"Think Like A Man" #1 At Box Office, Wins With $33M In Ticket Sales

Courtesy of theybf.com-The Screen Gems film Think Like a Man may become the “sleeper” hit of the season as the movie is overperforming at the box office and won the weekend with a $33M take!  Get the deets inside……

Starring Michael Ealy, Jerry Ferrara, Meagan Good, Regina Hall and Kevin Hart, the Will Packer-directed film Think Like a Man has movie execs gagging about its money-making weekend.

The flick was made on a budget of $12-13M and went on to make nearly $33M this weekend (estimated to only rake in $20 mill). And though the marketing may have focused on women (in most cases) the film is also crossing gender lines with many men reportedly turning out to see the film.

One Sony exec said, “The movie had a negative cost between $12M-$13M so we’re thrilled. “Any weekend where you make back the negative cost in the first weekend is a good weekend in our books.”

Not to mention, the film is only playing in 2,017 locations, much less than other minstream movies on the ticker.

Will Packer tweeted, #ThatWonderfulMoment When you try to buy tickets to the Sunday night show of your own movie and it’s sold out! #Thinklikeaman

Meanwhile, Kevin Hart tweeted, #ThinkLikeAMan will be #1 in the Box Office this weekend because of you guys!!!! We did 33million this weekend people, this is INSANE
